Astronomical Adventures in Boylston, MA

I was pretty wiped from my big corporate event, but the next day I had a program at the Boylston Public Library! I was really happy with past-Mel for doing all the prep for the program in advance, so all I had to do was basically show up and talk. It was an overview program where I talked about what was going to be going on in the night sky in August. Between solar and lunar eclipses, meteors, planetary lineups, and more, it’s going to be a busy month!

The program went so well, it was a full house and everyone was very engaged and asked lots of great questions. Of course, at one point I was talking about the Galilean moons—a topic I know a lot about!—and the name Io completely escaped me. Like, gone. The exhaustion must have been hitting me. Eventually it did come to me and I recovered, but really, Mel!

In a couple weeks we’re going to have a stargazing event at the Boylston recreation fields, so we talked some about what to expect at that as well, and we talked about where in Massachusetts there were some good dark spots. I really love when programs go well and I leave feeling like I accomplished something. Simply inspiring someone to look up at the night sky is a win in my book!
